Lawfully Wedded, Unlawfully Hilarious

Wendy and Wendell are already married. They had the traditional dream wedding with the groom’s family including ties and tails, dinner and dancing. Now the bride’s family wants their turn. Only, they’re doing things a little…differently.

They want a handfasting ceremony – an ancient Celtic ritual where the bride and groom’s hands are bound to symbolize their new life together. And they want the ceremony performed by a Wiccan priestess. 

To balance the unconventional nature of the proceedings, the family has engaged the services of professional wedding reception hostess, Helen Hunt.

Only Helen didn’t count on babysitting a drunk grandma, managing wiley parents, disciplining an admiral whose stripes ran contrary to military decorum, placating an ambitious bridesmaid or deflecting the attentions of a best man with a hidden crush.

In classic screwball form, mayhem ensues and it’s anyone’s guess how many marriages are intact when the dust clears.

Don’t miss this show of a lifetime with one of the best meals you’ve ever had! Cocktails are served at 5:30 with a dinner of baked chicken & ham, garlic mashed potatoes, a seasoned vegetable medley and salad Wedding cupcakes follow at 6:00. A vegan meal option is available at the time of ticket purchase. Cocktail attire is preferred.

Meet the Wedding Party

Based on the book by Christopher King, Wendy and Wendell’s Wonderful Wacky WASP Wedding is presented and performed by Players de Noc Incorporated. Players de Noc is a community theater based in Escanaba, MI.

They’ve been producing high-quality theatrical experiences, including plays and musicals, since 1974. This 100% volunteer company prides itself on nurturing new and local talent. They believe in creating thoughtful entertainment for audiences of all ages.

Players de Noc are sponsored by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. In their 48 years, they’ve produced a diversity of shows from West Side Story to Waiting for Godot to Anatomy of a Murder. Come see why this company is such a community treasure.
